Our coffee

Balzac didn’t just drink any old coffee. In a letter written from his small bedroom in Saché, he said “my coffee comes from Paris, but here, it’s entirely detestable, and I attribute my cerebral incapacity to this terrible coffee” (from a letter to Mrs Hanska, 16 June 1848). In fact, the famous French writer normally consumed a blend of three coffees he bought separately from three different Parisian grocers: Mocha, Bourbon and Martinique. The latter two having since almost entirely disappeared, Café Balzac today recreates the novelist's favourite brew from a subtle blend of Mocha, Kenyan and Santos coffees.
